#DownloadWorthy: Duolingo

Did you make a New Year’s Resolution to become fluent in Spanish, only to forget everything you ever knew en español? Or did you swear you’d step up your French language skills before your semester abroad, only to realize you forgot to practice le français langue altogether? Don’t worry, we have the quick, easy and fun fix for all your language learning problems!

Introducing: Duolingo.

This quickly-growing app has taken the gamification of learning to the next level. Users pick their desired language and move through increasingly-advanced levels of learning to speak it! From the basics, to food, clothes, and the slightly less fun – plurals and conjunctions – the app prompts you through the levels with exercises that have you speaking, reading, listening, and using images to work through your new language. You truly feel like you’re playing a game and, before you know it, you’ve been playing for hours…

With your the help of your pal, Duo the Owl, you earn points to get to the next level. After time, you’ll be prompted to return to previous levels to reinforce the skills you worked on there. Keep in mind, you’ll want a quiet place to practice. You’ll be prompted to speak and the app will speak to you, too. Before you know it, you’ll feel infinitely more confident in your language skills!

The app’s developers claim that playing through 34 hours of DuoLingo equates to one full semester of a language course! While we think that’s quite a claim to make, it’s definitely worth a shot to check out the app. With language choices ranging from Spanish to French, German to Turkish, we’re sure you’ll find a language to love!
