It feels like you can accomplish anything at the start of the day. You’ve got all the energy you need to tackle your morning classes and take on whatever life throws at you. Then the afternoon hits…and suddenly, most of that motivation has diminished. Here are some simple ways to get yourself out of that afternoon slump.
1. Grab a cup of coffee.
An extra kick of caffeine? Yes, please! Grabbing a cup of Joe will—of course—give you that energy boost you’re looking for, but it’s also a pretty tasty way to give yourself a mid-day treat. Chill out with a cold brew, lay back with a latte, or switch things up with a delicious macchiato.
2. Indulge in some feel-good stories.
Have you ever caught glimpse of one of those viral social media posts that share how somebody did good or made a difference? We’re suckers for a feel-good story, and we think it’s the perfect way to get yourself out of that slump you’re in. Read some of our favorites here. Faith in humanity = restored!
3. Watch a funny video.
A good belly laugh works wonders. Seriously, try staying in a slump after laughing for five minutes straight…it’s impossible! What’s our suggestion? We’re always big fans of fail compilations.
4. Listen to a pump-up playlist.
Music is the best medicine. Popping in those headphones after a long morning will definitely help keep you going—especially if you opt for something catchy with an uplifting beat. Whether you jam out with your roommate or choose to dance solo is up to you!
5. Read through some motivational quotes.
Wouldn’t it be nice if we each had our own personal cheerleader following us around when we need a pep talk? Hearing “You can do it!” or “Keep going!” during that mid-day funk would be nice, but it’s not very realistic. Get your dose of motivation with some inspiring quotes instead.
6. Take a quick walk…especially if it’s sunny!
A little bit of sunshine is always a mood-booster. Plus, getting active for a bit will help you feel energized again. It gets your blood pumping and keeps your mind alert!
7. Hang out with your pet.
As if you even needed an excuse to hang out with your furry companion! These little guys always have a way of picking us up…even if it’s just looking up at us with those big, innocent eyes.
8. Get in a good stretch.
Short and simple, yet very effective…You can’t knock that! Release all the tension from your morning with a deep, full-body stretch. It’s super rejuvenating.
9. Chat with a friend.
You might be tempted to curl in a ball and nap away your afternoon slump, but having a chat with some friends can help keep you going. Think about it…your friends are the ones that make you laugh and smile! Send them a quick, silly Snapchat if anything.
10. Give out some compliments.
It never fails. Giving out a compliment always feels good. Take notice of what happens the next time you offer something simple like, “Hey, nice shirt!” Chances are, you’ll get a big smile in return—and you know how contagious smiles are.
