Tweet Your Way to the Top

With Social Media becoming an integral part of everyday life, it’s hard to find a college student who isn’t connected. While social media platforms can be used for sharing photos and communicating with friends, they can also be valuable resources when it comes to academics or job hunting.  Last week we divulged our secrets for the perfect Facebook profile and this week we’re helping you tweet your way to the top. Keep up with current events. Because Twitter is continuously updating, it’s an easy way to stay up-to-the-minute with news. Follow accounts like Time Magazine (@Time) and the Huffington Post (@HuffingtonPost) for what’s going on in the news and accounts like Mashable (@mashable) for social media updates. You’ll be on top of what’s going on around you which can be very helpful at a job or in class.

Learn about your industry or major. By following accounts that frequently tweet about your selected course of study, you can easily keep an eye out for helpful articles about the industry. Learn about trends, what kinds of jobs are available, and anything else that will give you an edge in your major.

Look for jobs. Believe it or not, many companies post job listings right on Twitter. In addition, certain accounts are dedicated to posting jobs specific to a particular industry (Fashion, Technology, etc). Even if you can’t find the exact job you’re looking for, it’s definitely a good place to start.

Stay connected with your school. Nowadays, tons of colleges and universities have their own Twitter accounts. Keeping up with these is an easy way to know what events are going on on campus as well as any other valuable information they might share.
