Our next student highlight from the Thurgood Marshall College Fund’s 12th Annual Leadership Institute & Recruitment Fair is Lisa Phillips, a Business Management major from Coppin State University. Lisa is a budding entrepreneur who is proud of her affiliation with the American Marketing Association. She feels that the knowledge she has gained as a member of this organization is a major key to her success.
So what advice would Lisa give to other students? Growing up in foster care in the inner city showed Lisa how important it is to appreciate relationships and preparedness – preparing yourself for life by reading, engaging, and building friendships with your college classmates. She hopes that all students know that working hard now will pay off in the long run.
Lisa’s childhood also left her with an undying love for foster children who pursue higher education. In the past, she has partnered with the Maryland Foster Parent Association to honor foster parents in the Baltimore area who selflessly open their homes and their hearts to foster children in the state of Maryland. She desires to continue working towards her success in hopes of one day creating a job or a scholarship for residents of the city she lives in.
