Most of the time I feel as though I’m too busy to read, but sometimes I’m able to set aside a block of time dedicated to reading a good book. I’m a sucker for young-adult fiction and this novel by John Green has to be one of my all-time favorites. Once I picked this up, I just couldn’t put it down.
This novel follows the main character, Miles “Pudge” Halter as he leaves his home in Florida to attend his junior year at a boarding school in Alabama. His new roommate, Chip “The Colonel” Martin, introduces Miles to his friend Alaska Young and the rest is really history. Alaska is a dark and mysterious girl with a wild passion for life, but is also unafraid of death. You follow Miles on his journey to falling in love with someone who he can’t even begin to understand. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll find yourself getting frustrated and angry, but you won’t be able to stop reading. Green is able to connect you to these characters in a way that makes them feel like your own friends. It’s darkly romantic but also tragic.
John Green is an incredibly talented author and this is the book that started my obsession. This is one book that I highly recommend you read this summer.
Have you read Looking For Alaska? What did you think?
