Easy Study Tricks That ANYONE Can Master

It seems like every month there are new *~miracle~* study tricks guaranteed to help you ace your exams. While testing out new study techniques is great for helping you learn in different ways, there is no real miracle trick. However, there are definitely some simple methods for making sure you’re getting the most out of your study sessions! We’ve combed through our Study Tips archive and pulled together our easiest, surefire tricks for helping you reach your goals. Let’s dive right in!

Tip 1: Mnemonic Devices

Mnemonics are memory devices designed to help you remember large chunks of information. They often come in the form of a list or sentence, laid out in a way that helps the mind remember other info.

Without even realizing it, you’ve probably used mnemonics before! Remember using “My Very Elegant Mother Just Served Us Nine Pizzas” to remember the order of the planets (back before Pluto was booted, of course)? That’s a mnemonic! Research has shown that mnemonic devices help improve recall, so they’re definitely worth trying out.

Tip 2: Log Out of Your Social Accounts

How many times have you said “I’m just going to check Instagram real quick…” only to find yourself 75 weeks deep in your roommate’s sister’s old boyfriend’s feed? Too many times, that’s how many! Avoid the temptation by logging out of all your accounts before you start studying. The idea is to create enough of a hassle for yourself that you’ll avoid logging back in to procrastinate! Stay focused on studying and put off checking Snapchat for your study break.

Tip 3: Break Up Your Sessions

Trying to tackle all of American History at once is ambitious, but not necessarily wise. Instead, break up the material into smaller sections and tackle them one at a time. You’ll get less discouraged and retain more information. Start studying early to prevent study-fatigue!

Tip 4: Talk Things Out

Are your ideas getting jumbled and out of sorts? Try talking through your notes, rather than reading them silently. By literally talking it out, you’ll be able to organize your ideas in a way that makes sense – and not just in your head. This tactic will help you retain the information and understand it more thoroughly!
