10 Hobbies That’ll Bring Out Your Inner Adventurer

Sketching, crafting and other typical indoor hobbies aren’t everybody’s cup of tea. Some of us want something that gets us on our feet and out the door—especially now that summer is here! We put our thinking caps on and gathered some ideas that will bring out your inner adventurer, so keep reading and check out our top picks.

1. Photography

Adventurous hobbies aren’t always those blood-pumping, spine-tingling activities that make your hair stand on end. Something as laid back as photography can bring you on an adventure as you scope out new sites and locations that’ll make excellent photographs. It’s a great excuse to go on a small trip here and there, and your Instagram page is sure to rack up some likes!

2. Geocaching

If you’ve never heard of geocaching, it’s basically like a real life treasure hunt. Download the app, choose the geocache you want to find, then set off with a GPS and try to navigate to its location. You’ll likely find a log book you can sign and a few goodies that you can swap out or leave for others.

3. Rock Climbing

No worries—you don’t necessarily need to live by a mountain range for this one. Indoor rock climbing gyms are becoming more and more common, so check to see if there’s one in your area!

4. Kayaking or Canoeing

Kayak or canoe rentals are available at plenty of lakes and waterfronts, and each time on the water guarantees a new adventure. Stay on a steady stream if you’re looking for a low key adventure, or pick a rapid-filled area if you want that rush of adrenaline!

5. Volunteering

You probably never thought of this as a hobby, huh? Volunteering can be adventurous as long as you invest your time in the right opportunities. You can end up working in some pretty cool places (look for opportunities abroad!), seeing some once-in-a-lifetime things, and learning about lifestyles you wouldn’t have learned about otherwise.

6. Metal Detecting

You really never know what kind of cool things will turn up when you set out with a metal detector. Maybe you’ll just find some old tins and coins, or maybe you’ll find a priceless artifact. Just make sure not to dig up the neighbor’s yard!

7. Hiking

It’s easy, it’s free, and there’s no doubt it’s adventurous. Check for local trails in your area here and get started on your first excursion!

8. Fishing

A hobby like fishing is both chill and adventurous, so it’s the best of both worlds. From taking a boat out into the ocean to finding a nice hidden spot on a stream, it’s easy to switch things up each time you head on a fishing trip.

9. Running

Hear us out for a second. We don’t mean just running on a treadmill or around your neighborhood (although if that’s what you want, more power to ya!). Bring out your adventurous side by training for marathons or 5K’s across your state or even the country. Some of them even require things like going through obstacles and trekking through mud!

10. Mountain Biking

This isn’t your typical ride-your-bike-down-the-street scenario. With mountain biking, you’ll be off-roading through rough terrain at various levels of difficulty. It’s definitely a rush for those adrenaline junkies out there!
