5 Items Every Organized Student Needs to Have

It goes without saying: staying organized in college is very important. It’s pretty much a crucial part of getting good grades and staying productive, which is why we decided to share our favorite items that’ll put you on the fast track to becoming an organized student. Check ’em out!

1. Page Markers

Page markers are going to be your new best friend. You might be the master of note-taking, but even the most organized notes can get overwhelming after you’ve covered numerous chapters and lessons. Use page markers to label each section of your notes so that you’ll know exactly which page to flip to when you sit down for a study session.

2. Desk Organizers

Cluttered desks and drawers are a hassle. By the time you find everything you need, you could have already gotten a start on your work! Keep your supplies in check with a desk top organizer, or a drawer organizer that’s separated into handy compartments.

3. Planner

Keeping only mental reminders of your due dates probably isn’t the best idea. There’s a lot going on in college! Even if you swear by your photographic memory, we suggest writing everything down in a planner—just in case.

4. Desk Calendar

Organization is key when it comes to staying on top of your assignments. That’s where a desk calendar comes in. It’s pretty hard to forget a due date when it’s staring right back at you while you work!

Tip: Take your planner with you to class so that you can record any new due dates, then transfer them onto your desk calendar once you head home.

5. Dry Erase Memo Board

Organized students know how to make use of to-do lists and daily reminders, but the location makes all the difference. We’re huge fans of using dry-erase boards because paper lists tend to get a bit messy—after all, how many times are you adding to it, checking tasks off, and crossing things out? Try hanging one right above your desk so you’ll always be on top of your next task.

Bonus: Find one that also has a cork board section. They’re perfect for pinning important sheets of paper!

Darn. In the picture you had an iPad and an iPhone. Thought you were going to suggest those items and I’d be able to talk my wife into getting those. 😄

    • Kaitlyn BNC says:

Maybe you can convince her you need the iPhone for these apps! 😉 http://bit.ly/2l9EsjG

    • Scott says:

Randy, you can still convince your wife you need an iPhone and an iPad if you put your college reminders into iCal on your iPad. By syncing class schedule with your iPhone, it will remind you when to leave for class based on traffic, navigate you there, remind you of upcoming assignments, etc.

You don’t need a desk Calender when your reminders always pop up on your phone.

I like the idea of transferring what you have on planner on calender, I’ll start doing that now. ITs helpful because sometimes planners get messy to.

  3. jessica schuett says:

I prefer loose leaf paper and a binder vs. notebooks. I can add things, use dividers, or 3 punch class syllabus etc. I use black, blue and red ink. Black are generally regular notes. Blue are terms, keywords, and red indicates I an action or task.

  4. Jac says:

…and a box of tissues to dry your tears 😂📝

  5. Lexi B. says:

When doing notes I highlight definitions in blue, important things the professors point out in orange, yellow is for things i think that are important & pink and green for equations and answers. I also pick a colored pen for every class so I can write what i need to do for each of them in my planner
